Blouberg is Getting Younger 🔴

South Africa has come a long way since the first nationwide Covid-19 lockdown, which was announced just over a year ago on 23 March 2020. Despite the tremendous strain all of us have taken and still endures to this day since the ensuing global pandemic began, life has adapted and we've found solace in many of the things we previously would have taken for granted.

On the micro-level, as individuals, perspectives have shifted in the limitations set upon our daily lives. This has resulted in a macro-level societal paradigm shift in how we treat each other and see the world; research tells us that harder circumstances catalyze resilience, positivity, and connectedness.

The Blouberg real estate market has been a fascinating example of this paradigm shift: as the enjoyment of life continues to grow amongst property buyers and home work-life becomes the new norm, so too does the demand for real estate in beachside areas with world-class infrastructure.

 

Lets go to the beach!

'Semigration' is a word that's been thrown around a lot for the past few years, and for good reason. Statistics going back to the beginning of lockdown have shown a clear trend of buyers from Johannesburg, Durban, and Pretoria opting to sell their homes and move to Cape Town - with Blouberg being a standout area in this regard due to close proximity to the city's world-renowned beaches.

 

Injection of youth into Blouberg

Although the financial hardships brought on by the pandemic have hit many, many others in professional fields have maintained their income and are taking advantage of interest rates that remain low - the lowest in 65 years to be exact.

The kids are finally growing up. Millennials, the generation that brought back the 'Work Live Play' urban lifestyle are now having kids of their own and raising families. Perhaps the lifestyle is hip and trendy, but unfortunately, you can't raise a family in an apartment in Green Point. With the demands of everyday life absorbing us, it's easy to forget about the slow, yet inevitable growth that's happening in the area every day. Perhaps too glacial to notice even if one tried, Blouberg has gone from a collection of small properties to a bustling seaside node attracting not only 'semigrants', but buyers the world over looking to grab their own slice of this area that has seemingly endless possibilities and potential.

On the other hand, an increasing number of longtime residents of the Western Seaboard are finding that the attributes which originally resulted in them settling there all those years ago have disappeared over time. Many of them decide that it is once again time to find their slice of quaint seaside heaven further down the coastline in lesser developed areas such as the Garden Route.
